OSHA Compliance Programs
Does your company need to be concerned about OSHA compliance?
Yes. Even though Missouri does not currently have a state plan, employers must still comply with the Federal OSHA guidelines. If an accident occurs at the workplace OSHA can be requested to investigate the incident. If a violation has occurred the employer can be penalized.
What type of violations can employers' be cited for?
Some common violations include lockout/tagout, respiratory protection, trench protection and bloodborne pathogens. These are just a few, for a complete list of OSHA standards you can visit www.osha.gov.
Is there an OSHA standard that applies to CPR and first aid?
Yes. Standard 1910.151 states:
"1910.151(a)
The employer shall ensure the ready availability of medical personnel for advice and consultation on matters of plant health.

1910.151(b)
In the absence of an infirmary, clinic, or hospital in near proximity to the workplace which is used for the treatment of all injured employees, a person or persons shall be adequately trained to render first aid. Adequate first aid supplies shall be readily available.

1910.151(c)
Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use."
Is there an OSHA standard that applies to fire extinguishers?
Yes. Standard 1910.157 states:
"1910.157(g)
Training and education.
1910.157(g)(1)
Where the employer has provided portable fire extinguishers for employee use in the workplace, the employer shall also provide an educational program to familiarize employees with the general principles of fire extinguisher use and the hazards involved with incipient stage fire fighting.
1910.157(g)(2)
The employer shall provide the education required in paragraph (g)(1) of this section upon initial employment and at least annually thereafter.
1910.157(g)(3)
The employer shall provide employees who have been designated to use fire fighting equipment as part of an emergency action plan with training in the use of the appropriate equipment."
