Completing EMT training takes commitment, preparation, and plenty of hands-on practice. Recently, Respond Right EMS Academy celebrated an important milestone as EMT Class 75 officially completed its course, along with two students from the Hybrid EMT program.
The class came together to celebrate after completing their final examinations, marking the end of their formal course training and the beginning of the next step toward becoming certified EMTs.
For the instructors and staff at Respond Right, graduation is more than a ceremony. It is an opportunity to recognize the time, effort, and persistence students put into developing the knowledge and skills needed for emergency medical services.
From Classroom Training to Skills Practice
EMT education involves more than learning medical terminology or studying from a textbook. Students must learn how to apply what they know in situations that require communication, assessment, decision-making, and practical skills.
At Respond Right EMS Academy, students have opportunities to practice these skills in a hands-on training environment.
For Class 75, the final stage of the course included completing the required final examinations before moving forward to the next phase of the certification process.
The graduation celebration included the presentation of Certificates of Completion, followed by cake and ice cream with classmates, instructors, and those who supported the students throughout their training.
Two Hybrid EMT Students Also Celebrate
The celebration also included two students completing the Hybrid EMT course at Respond Right.
Hybrid training provides a different way for students to complete their EMT education, combining flexible coursework with required hands-on skills training.
For students balancing work, family, or other responsibilities, a hybrid format can provide additional flexibility while still requiring them to develop and demonstrate practical EMT skills.
At Respond Right, Hybrid EMT students complete their coursework and participate in the hands-on portions of their training as part of the program requirements.
What Comes After EMT Course Completion?
Graduating from an EMT course is an important milestone, but it is not necessarily the final step toward becoming a certified EMT.
Following course completion, students may need to complete the applicable certification examination and other state or program requirements.
Members of EMT Class 75 were preparing to take the NREMT Cognitive Exam and the Missouri Psychomotor Examination as their next steps.
The NREMT Cognitive Exam evaluates EMT knowledge through a national certification examination, while practical skills testing gives students an opportunity to demonstrate required hands-on competencies.
That transition from classroom training to certification can be an exciting—and sometimes challenging—part of the EMT journey.
The People Behind the Class
A successful EMT class depends on more than the students themselves.
Respond Right recognized several people who contributed to the success of Class 75, including Assistant Chief Karl Parks, Jack Smack, Katherine Severns, and EMS Instructor Interns Anthony King and Brennan Lord-Howe.
Anthony and Brennan provided additional support through weekly study sessions and participation in the skills lab. Their involvement gave students additional opportunities to practice skills and patient assessments during the course.
Hands-on practice and instructor guidance can be especially valuable when students are preparing to demonstrate the skills they will need in an emergency medical setting.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating
Graduation represents months of studying, practicing, testing, and learning how to approach emergency situations.
For Class 75, completing the EMT course was an opportunity to recognize that work before moving on to the next stage of their EMS education.
The Respond Right team expressed its appreciation for the students and everyone who helped make the class successful.
As these new EMT graduates move forward with their certification process, they take with them the knowledge and practical experience developed during their training.
Congratulations to EMT Class 75 and the Hybrid EMT graduates!
